Home - The Parish of Urchfont

 

The Parish comprises the communities of Urchfont, Wedhampton and Lydeway, three villages / hamlets approximately six miles south of Devizes along B3098 / A342 and on the edge of Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire, UK.

The Parish is currently made up of approximately 980 registered electors and their family members not yet old enough to register, this number will increase as new developments are completed. Farming provides the predominant work activity within the Parish.

Within the Parish you will find much that displays a typical English Village environment; the Urchfont Duck Pond, Church, Village Hall, Community Shop and Post Office, Pub, Primary School/Pre-School, Cricket/Croquet ground, Playing Field / Recreation Ground / Playground Area, Oakfrith Wood, Peppercombe Wood, Farmers Field, Urchfont Cemetery, allotments, farm shops, farm buildings, thatched cottages together with many footpaths & bridleways all nestling within very active farmland and the wider countryside on the edge of Salisbury Plain. Numerous sporting and social clubs exist within the Parish.

Urchfont Parish Council, normally comprising eleven elected or co-opted councillors, oversees / administers and maintains community owned / managed areas in the Parish including the cemetery, Pond Green, allotments and Recreation Ground. The Council is a statutory consultee on all planning applications relating to land / buildings in the Parish which have been submitted by members of the Parish and others. This website is owned and managed by the Parish Council.

A very successfulf annual Scarecrow Festival was again held over the May Bank Holiday weekend in 2023.

Urchfont won the CPRE Best Kept Village Competition in the Kennet Section Medium Village (District Round) and also the County Round competition for the best kept medium village overall. 

The Urchfont, Wedhampton and Lydeway Neighbourhood Plan 2015 - 2026 was declared 'made' following a referendum on 20th April 2017. Preparations are in hand by a Parish Council Working Group to review and update the Plan.
